Public holiday

The Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development has declared Monday 10th July, 2017 a public holiday to extend the marking of the 6th anniversary of Independence.

South Sudan celebrates Independence annually on the 9th of July after separating from Sudan in 2011.

The Ministry of Labour says the country will mark the day tomorrow and Monday.

It says work will resume on Tuesday, the 11th of July.

Last month, the Minister of Information, Michael Makuei, said the country will not hold celebrations for the day this year but only observed it.

He said that budget meant for it would be used to transport IDPs stranded near the Juba International Airport back to their home states.
