Any proposal on formation of an interim gov’t is upon stakeholders – SPLM 7

An official with the 7 SPLM leaders who were formerly detained and released by the government says any proposal on the formation of an interim government in South Sudan can only be decided upon by all stakeholders in the Addis Ababa talks.

John Luk Jok, who is the spokesperson of the 7 SPLM political leaders, said nobody has suggested setting up a transitional government in South Sudan before next year’s elections.

“The interim government would come about as a decision out of these discussions, and no one party can decide it,” Mr. Luk told Eye Radio in Addis Ababa.

He said the outcome of the peace talks will be based on a consensus of all the participants in the talks.

“But it’s the interim measures that will be taken. If those interim measures and policies are agreed upon during these talks, then the question that will put itself will be: are these enough for the people to get the confidence that they have lost?

“Or should we create a new dispensation that will implement this?”

John Luk said that they have submitted their input on the IGAD’s proposed agenda and hope that the agenda for peace talks will be out soon.

  1. Having an interim government is a question of,for what reason do they want an interim government? In my understanding, this proposal should come from the people not the parties to the current senseless crisis!! Otherwise, if they are the one to come up with that proposal and then to be endorse by them and the IGAD !! for me it will be just an award to themselves for having caused the on-going crisis and every time anyone will do the same to get power. So the condition for the interim government is that 90% of the faces either from the side of the SPLM government and the SPLM – in opposition shouldn’t take part to avoid losing trust in such a government let by the parties to the crises .
