President Kiir on Thursday morning travelled to Dubai to join other world leaders for the annual United Nations conference on climate change.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramadan Mohamed Abdalla Goc said President Kiir will hold sidelines to discuss regional peace and security, including the crisis in Sudan.

The COP28 will mark a milestone as the world takes stock of its progress on the Paris Agreement and facilitates efforts to align climate action and address gaps in progress.

Organisers say the conference provides an opportunity for world leaders to join their efforts to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and protect nations that are most vulnerable to climate change, many of them in the Global South.
