President Salva Kiir and a delegation departed Juba on Friday morning for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The President will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The visit continues engagements between the Republic of South Sudan and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The meeting follows a commitment by both leaders to coordinate on cooperation and ties.
The departure took place after a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) arrived in Juba on Thursday to assess the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement. The Council will meet with the Vice Presidency and institutions established under the R-ARCSS.
Consultations include meetings with UNMISS, IGAD, and RJMEC. The African Union Mission in South Sudan (AUMISS) stated the Council is gathering information to guide support for the transition toward elections.
The delegation is exploring mechanisms to facilitate the completion of requirements in the peace agreement. These sessions will serve as the basis for AU PSC strategies to support the transitional period.
