President Salva Kiir has signed into law the National Elections Act 2023.
This comes a week after the national legislature passed the bill last Monday.
Speaking to the state-own TV, SSBC, the Speaker of the Transitional Assembly says the Act is an important element in the 2018 peace deal for elections to be held.
According to Jemma Nunu Kumba, the country is now ready to start preparations for the elections by putting in place mechanisms for the parties to exercise their democratic rights.
According to the law, 50% of members of the national assembly will be through election, 35% of women will represent geographical constituencies and 15% will come from party lists.
While the president-elect will appoint 5% from the disadvantaged groups.
