President Salva Kiir has appointed Hon. Ajou Luol Akuei as Managing Director and reconstituted the Board of Directors of the South Sudan Media Authority, replacing former Managing Director Elijah Alier and members of the previous board who served for 10 years.
In a Republican Order issued on 24 June 2026, President Kiir dissolved the previous board by annulling the 2021 decree that established it and appointed a new nine-member board with immediate effect.
The order, issued under Section 9(1) of the Media Authority Act, 2013, names Kongdier Dut Jok as Chairperson and Cecilia Joseph Maker as Deputy Chairperson.
The Managing Director of the Media Authority, Ajou Luol Akuei, will serve as Secretary and Ex-Officio Member.
Other members of the board include Nyankuac Ngor Chol, Emmanuel Monychol Akop, Editor-in-Chief of the Dawn Newspaper, Michael James Otor, David John Kamuri, spokesperson of the National Security Service’s Internal Security Bureau, and Koang Pal Chang, Station Manager and Chief Editor of Eye Radio.
The appointments took effect immediately after the Republican Order was signed by President Kiir in Juba on 24 June 2026.
Reacting to the appointment, Eye Radio’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Omiri, congratulated Koang Pal, describing his selection as well deserved.
Omiri said the appointment reflects Koang’s dedication, integrity, and outstanding contribution to the growth of journalism and the media industry in South Sudan.
