To solve the problem of illiteracy in the South Sudan Police, new recruits must have at least completed high school.
The police department is currently signing up new recruits under this new rule.
Forms are available in ten States for interested candidates to apply.
“The admission will be based on two programs; one of them is diploma course, and this course takes two years. People who graduated with diploma and bachelor degrees will be eligible for this course,” Police spokesperson James Monday explained to Eye Radio.
“The second program is a bachelor program; secondary school leaving certificate holders will be eligible and they will graduate with a bachelor degree in Law and Police Science.”
Colonel Monday added that the recruitment is happening across the country.
“The forms have been distributed to the ten states, and there is also a committee which will conduct a test interview there and appoint eligible candidates, and eventually send the successful candidates to Juba.”
Previously, the police inspector told Eye Radio that more than 70% of the current police force is illiterate and therefore delivering poor services to the population.
