The South Sudan National Police Service has dismissed social media reports claiming that recently retired senior officers have been reinstated, saying it has received no official communication confirming the alleged move.

Police spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin said the reports are false and urged the public not to rely on unverified information circulating online.

“We have received numerous reports on social media claiming that some senior officers who were recently retired have been reinstated to the police force. We want to assure the public that this information is false,” Justin said.

Justin did not name any of the officers referred to in the reports.

His statement comes after a social media report claimed that President Salva Kiir Mayardit had reinstated Lt. Gen. Majak Arol Kachuol to active service in the South Sudan National Police Service.

The report claimed that Majak would resume his previous position as Assistant Inspector General of Police for Administration and Finance.

However, the police spokesperson said the service had not received any official notification confirming such reinstatements.

“We have not received any official notification confirming their reinstatement. We urge citizens not to be misled by false information circulating on social media,” Justin said.

He said police authorities had launched an investigation into the source of the reports and were pursuing those responsible for spreading what the service described as false information.

“We deny the veracity of the news circulating online and have launched an investigation into the sources that leaked this information on social media,” Justin said.

Justin urged the public to seek information about the police service through official statements and verified channels.
