Police confiscate unregistered bikes in Aweil East

The traffic police in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal State have confiscated more than one hundred unregistered motor bikes.

The police say the owners of these motorbikes failed to acquire correct number plates.

The crackdown on motorbikes came after a boda- boda knocked down a woman and two children on Tuesday and they were seriously injured.

The motorists were warned of over speeding in the town to avoid causing incidents, but they did not respect the order, said Achol Lual Yor, area traffic police officer.

She said the move will help the traffic police control the movement of motorbikes in the town in order to minimize traffic accidents.

However, some Boda-boda riders say they respect the directive issued by the traffic police, but it is expensive to acquire new number plate.

A number plate for a motorbike costs 400 pounds.
