The Director General of the Petroleum Exploration and Production Authority has inspected the Tharjath oilfields in Unity State to assess operations and address challenges affecting oil production.

During the visit on Wednesday, Eng. Lual Chol Dak toured the base camp, Central Processing Facility, Central Power Plant, control room, and pumping station.

He was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Petroleum, national technical consultants, and a technical team from Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC).

The Director General said the inspection was aimed at reviewing operational efficiency, assessing technical readiness, and ensuring stable oil production while improving the sector’s performance and sustainability.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum, the Tharjath Oilfields in Block 5A currently produce about 12,100 barrels of oil per day, contributing significantly to government revenue and the national economy.

Eng. Lual emphasized the need to adhere to occupational safety standards and called for continued maintenance and development of key facilities, particularly the power generation plant, which he described as essential for sustaining production and attracting investment.

The inspection team also reviewed challenges affecting the oilfields, including infrastructure, environmental management, drilling operations, shortages of spare parts, road access, community relations, and budget constraints.

The Director General assured engineers at the site of the government’s continued support and said the operational challenges affecting production have been resolved, with oil production now running smoothly.
