Peter Ogum, a Collo language (LOD) translator who provided translation services to Sudan Radio Service (SRS), now Eye Radio, since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), has passed away.

Ogum died this morning after being admitted to Juba Teaching Hospital, where he underwent surgery that was reported to have been successful. However, he later succumbed to his medical condition.

Ogum began providing translation services to SRS during the CPA period and continued supporting the station after South Sudan’s independence in 2011. Over the years, he provided translation services for news content and public service announcements (PSAs) into the Chollo language whenever needed.

His work helped make information accessible to Chollo-speaking audiences and supported the station’s efforts to provide public service content in local languages.

Station Manager of Eye Radio, Koang Pal Chang, expressed deep sadness over Ogum’s passing, describing him as a committed colleague whose contribution to broadcasting and community communication will be remembered.

“I am deeply saddened by this loss. The last time we met here, he brought warmth into the newsroom, smiling through every hardship. We shared a long journey as presenters, navigating every challenge from Kibera in Nairobi to the heat of Juba,” Koang said.

“You gave your young age to fight for this country, and you remained a true voice for your Chollo listeners to the end, even when our liberators were left behind. May you rest in peace, Ogum,” he added.

Colleagues and friends have continued to pay tribute to Ogum, remembering him as a dedicated language professional who remained committed to serving his community through translation and broadcasting.
