The parliament has elected a new speaker.
After a unanimous vote this afternoon, Mr. Magok Rundial was appointed by the lawmakers.
“Nobody objected to it,” said Mayiik Ayii, a member of the National Legislative Assembly. “All the members that were present – over 200 MPs – supported him.”
Magok Rundial, who is a graduate of American University in Beirut, was once the governor of Unity state.
“He is a long serving civil servant,” Hon. Ayii added.
“He is a loyal member to the party.”
The parliament has also elected two deputy speakers: former governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal Mark Nyipuoc and Jasmin Samuel Adekaya, the former deputy chairperson for Mining and Petroleum committee in the parliament.
