Oxfam has called on the warring parties to respect the ceasefire agreement to enable humanitarian organizations reach conflict affected people with food to reduce the risk of starvation.

Last week, three UN agencies warned that tens of thousands of people across the country are at risk of extreme hunger.

They say about 3.9 million people are currently facing severe hunger and is projected to remain until December, according to Food Security Phase Classification analysis conducted in September.

The statement comes a week after state officials reported that eight internally displaced people have starved to death at a remote camp in Mundri East, Western Equatoria.

In response to the analysis, Oxfam South Sudan Country Director Zlatko Gegic said action is needed to save the lives of the people.

He called on the international community to continue to apply all diplomatic measures that will support the delivery of real lasting peace.
