Over 3,000 displaced by flooding in Uror County

More than 3,000 people are rendered homeless after flashfloods submerged the entire area, the local authorities in Uror County of Jonglei State have said.

The Relief and Rehabilitation Coordinator, Gatwang Jokthiang termed the flood situation as a disaster for the entire area.

“The flooding in Uror County so it occurred like a disaster. so, for the fourth one it displaced 3500 and 88 individuals from their own that was for phase on,” Jokthiang said.

He stated that the displaced have moved to higher grounds and government facilities like police stations.

“As of now it displaced everybody including the commissioner’s compound and as well as the police station, so all this place now has been taken over by flood, so we are now in bad condition.”

The official further said the flood-affected victims lack food, shelter, and medicines.

Last month, the government declared a national emergency over flood-affected areas and contracted logistic companies to supply relief items to the displaced and stranded populations.

It is not yet known whether the food supplies have reached the affected communities.
