A member of SPLM-In Opposition is calling for postponement of the SPLM extra ordinary convention until all its members return to Juba.

On Monday, SPLM secretary of Information, Bol Makueng said an invitation was extended to the leader of the opposition Dr Riek Machar, as well as SPLM secretary general Pagan Amum, among others, to attend the second party convention.

The convention has been scheduled to take place in Juba on Thursday.

“We have been saying we are not ready to participate in the extra-ordinary convention to pass the SPLM basic document on the 7th,” said Stephen Par Kuol, a member of the opposition advance team.

However, he said his group helped the party produce important documents.

“We have made a tremendous progress on the harmonization of the SPLM document based on Arusha agreement. In fact we have produced in tripartite meeting a new constitution of the SPLM due to be passed in the convention.

The second convention was supposed to be held in November 2014.

Senior party officials claimed it was delayed because they couldn’t print the constitution and manifesto.
