The ministry of health in Malakal County has declared a measles outbreak in the area.
“10 people have been diagnosed with the disease, and 44 cases have been reported so far,” said Dr. John Chol, acting director general of Malakal Teaching hospital.
No death has been reported.
“Now that it has been declared by the national government, funds will be made available for mass campaign in Malakal, especially for the children less than five years old – those who have not had the regular immunization given to children at a very early age.”
Measles is transmitted through droplets, and its symptoms include high fever, red eye, and rashes over the body.
Dr. Chol said that measles can be prevented by routine vaccination campaigns.
