Official asks public to be vigilant against Ebola

The Director-General of Juba Teaching Hospital is appealing to the public to be vigilant and report suspicious signs and symptoms related to the Ebola Virus Disease.

Anthony Lupai says the public need to observe preventive measures such as avoiding physical contact and observing hygiene.

The guidelines also include isolating in private rooms, those who have traveled to an Ebola-affected country and those who are exhibiting Ebola symptoms.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Friday, Lupai assured the public that the country is still free from the deadly virus since no case has been confirmed.

“This result has given a real assurance that now, we don’t have anything that is proved to be positive but that has not taken out our vigilance. People are still going to be vigilant,” Lupai said.

On Thursday, the samples of a man who died after presenting Ebola Virus-like signs and symptoms were proven negative for the disease.

The unnamed 35-year-old man who died at Juba Teaching Hospital, was a resident of Gumbo-Shirikat.

He vomited blood with some oozing from his nose while suffering from general body weakness and chest pain.

“We are happy that the result has tested negative, people had been panicking, there was a lot of pinking not only in the hospital but all over the city people were saying there was Ebola. This has cause fear all over the city.”

According to Thursday’s statement by the Ministry of Health, the deceased had a recent history of travel to Uganda in the last 14 days.

The signs and symptoms of Ebola Virus Diseas are fever, aches and pains, such as severe headache and muscle and joint pain, weakness and fatigue, sore throat and loss of appetite.
