President Salva Kiir on Friday received the fiscal year budget for 2022/ 2023, and approved the Appropriation and Financial Bills into law.

Last month, the national parliament passed the 1.4 trillion pounds budget with a deficit of 560 billion pounds.

According to the August House, the budget sealing will be raised through the oil proceeds estimated at 715 billion pounds and non-oil revenue sources to the tune of 117 billion pounds.

On Friday, Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba presented the National Budget and the Bills to President Salva Kiir, who then assented to laws on the Appropriation and Financial bills.

The Chairperson of the Specialized Committee on Finance and Economic Planning, Changkuoth Bichok Reth, said the Budget will stimulate economic recovery and other sectors.

“We have brought the budget today and we have submitted it to the president, so that he go through it and sign it to become a law. We have scrutinized the budget and we have done a lot in the budget to make sure that this budget will really solve a lot of issues in the country,” Bichok said while speaking to the State-owned television – SSBC.

“The budget is very comprehensive and we have submitted it to his excellency the president, so we are waiting as the parliament for the bill to be tabled so that the budget for salaries of civil servants and organized forces in the army will be tabled and added to the budget.”

It is not clear how the government will cover the deficit in the budget expected to come into force soon.

According to the Country’s Constitution, the financial year begins on July 1st.

In August 2022, President Kiir delayed the implementation stating that the government was yet working to clear arrears of civil servants, and was financing debts, among others.
