Norway has announced a contribution of $7.7 million for addressing hunger in areas most affected by the conflict in South Sudan.

The money will be used by the Food and Agriculture Organization to help farmers, fishers and herders in Unity, Upper Nile and Jonglei states next year.

The FAO says its support will target some 80,000 vulnerable households with seeds, fishing and farming tools, as well as livestock veterinary health assistance.

“3.2 million people are targeted. Over 71.000 livelihood kits are procured and 2.8 million heads of livestock vaccinated,” said Tone Tines, Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan.

However, FAO is still appealing for further funding of more than $43 million.

The Deputy Country Representative says the agency will use the funds to continue providing emergency livelihood assistance.

The agency says it provided crop, vegetable and fishing kits to more than two million people this year.
