Newly appointed Yei officials urged to protect foreign traders

The Governor of Central Equatoria State urges the newly appointed Commissioner of Yei River County and the Mayor of Yei Municipality to protect foreign traders in Yei.

Thousands of foreign businesspeople, mostly from the neighboring Uganda and DR Congo are running various business activities in the county.

There are a lot of complaints from foreign traders that they have being cheated by the South Sudanese nationals.

Konga said such activities will spoil the name of the Country.

“There are a lot of problems because some of them have got partnerships with South Sudanese; at the end, the South Sudanese will take the money away from him and this will spoil the name of the Republic of South Sudan,” said Mr Konga.

“They should not make partnership with other people, let the trader be a trader of its own.”

However, he encouraged business completion, saying it boosts up delivery of quality services to the consumers.

“If traders don’t compete, development would never come or the market will never increase,” he added.

Governor Clement Wani Konga was speaking during the swearing in of the newly appointed Commissioner for Yei River County and the Mayor of Yei Municipality.

The two officials were appointed by a decree issued by the state Governor last week.
