The police authorities in Northern Bahr el Gazal State have written to their Sudanese counterparts to hand over a fugitive suspected to have murdered two local government administrators in Aweil East County, last week.

On Friday, January 13, Waraguet Payam administrator and his deputy were gunned down by a suspected Misseriya man, over an alleged court dispute.

The unnamed culprit killed Santino Akech Angok and Peter Arol Yai at 7 AM, before crossing to neighboring Sudan.

The dispute was allegedly triggered by a local court ruling which favored a South Sudanese man.

The court gave the ownership of disputed herds to the South Sudanese in question.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Monday, the state police commissioner, Maj. Gen. Philip Madut Tong said the culprit who was dissatisfied with the judgement opened fire on the five officials – killing two and injuring three.

“The Administrative Court ruled in favor of the South Sudanese that he has the right to cows. This ruling angered Misseriya the man he took armed,” said Madut.

“He went to the area where the ruling took place and opened fire on those present, killing two people and wounding three others. After that, he fled to the borders of Sudan, and currently, the authorities in the state are contacting the Sudanese authority to arrest him and hand him over to face justice.”

The police official said they have written to the Sudanese authorities and that they are “awaiting a response from the Sudanese side to arrest the accused and send him to trial.”
