NBGS expects poor sorghum harvest

Sorghum harvest is expected to be poor in most areas of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state this year due to drought and pests, an official has said.

The crop yield is estimated to be sixty percent or less of the expected harvest, the Director General in the ministry, Joseph Garang Garang, says.

The state faced a shortage of rain this year, according to officials.

Mr. Garang said farmers cultivated enough rice, but the rice will also be affected by the lack of water due to inadequate rains.

He urged farmers to use their yield carefully because they expect hunger next year.
