MPs in the state assembly in Northern Bahr el Ghazal have impeached the speaker and her deputy.
The MPs passed a vote of no confidence in the two officials yesterday and elected new ones.
The Head of the Steering Committee for Information, Ernest Mangok says the two leaders were accused of not carrying out their duties as required.
“The charge was just underperformance,” Mr Mangok told Eye Radio. “The speaker was not performing to the expectation of the members. And there was a worry because the assembly is becoming weaker and weaker because of the leadership.”
Meanwhile, the former Speaker, Achol William says she was targeted because of her gender.
She told Eye Radio that she decided to leave the position to avoid violence.
“I told the governor that I better stay at home because I don’t want Northern Bahr el Ghazal to be in chaos because I have my children and relatives and I have my colleagues and they will not feel me that somebody is humiliating me and they will not respond on that,” she said.
Mr Achol says she was sick when the MPs accused her of not performing her duties.
