LRA abducts 6 in Ezo

Six people were kidnapped by the Lord’s Resistance Army in Ezo County, Western Equatoria, over the weekend, the commissioner has said.

Albert Moudie says a woman is among six people who were kidnapped at a farm near the border with the Central Africa Republic.

He told Eye Radio that the LRA released five men but they are holding the woman.

“We organized our army who pursued them but they entered into Congo territory which we could not pursue them up to Congo,” Mr Moudie said.

Before the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the L-R-A had used Western Equatoria State as a base for its operations against the Ugandan government.

There have been claims that the group has entered the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in 2007 it was reported that it was in Central African Republic.

The LRA has been accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, child-sex slavery, and forcing children to participate in hostilities.
