A Member of Parliament has criticized a decision restricting the singing of the national anthem in institutions of learning in Yei River state.
It’s not clear who in the state restricted the singing of the song of devotion to South Sudan.
“Unfortunately, a decision was taken that the National anthem should not be sung unless the president is present in that occasion,” Hon Jacob Aligo Lado told Eye Radio.
However, says singing the national anthem during social events promotes patriotism and national cohesion among the young population in the country.
“As a person, this decision needs to be revisited because the word of the National anthem is a reminder to us of where we come from and what we want to do for this country,” Hon Aligo argued.
“It’s a pride for each one of us. In the schools, the learners have to sing the national anthem before they get into their classes, because through it, we inculcate the spirit of nationalism in the young people.”
