A South Sudanese student Monica Malith has become the president of the University of Nairobi Students Association, after a landslide victory on Saturday.
Ms. Malith, who was the onlly female contestant among the three candidates, got elected with an overwhelming margin – having won 25 of the 39 votes.
Monica Malith was in tears on stage – as she was announced winner. The two runners-up congratulated her in their concession speeches.
“I don’t know what to say, but I can just say thank you. I have had a great team that has supported me throughout this journey,” Monica said in a live footage on the University YouTube channel.
She also posted “Thank you Lord” on her social media page.
She was inaugurated shortly at 3:PM East Africa Time on the same day.
