 The Mogos and Jie communities have signed a peace agreement committing to end revenge killings, cattle raiding and other forms of violence in Kapoeta East County, Eastern Equatoria State, following a dialogue led by Governor Louis Lobong Lojore.

According to a post on the state official Facebook page, the agreement was reached during a peace meeting attended by elders, chiefs, youth representatives and traditional leaders from Lotuba/Lotiyan and Naliwatom bomas, who gathered to resolve long-standing tensions between the neighbouring communities.

As part of the resolutions, the two communities agreed to reopen roads that had been closed because of insecurity, allowing the free movement of people, goods and humanitarian services.

They also pledged to restore peaceful coexistence and resolve future disputes through dialogue rather than violence.

The communities further agreed not to pursue acts of revenge over the killing of former Kapoeta East County Commissioner Stephen Lowasio, instead allowing the government and the courts to conclude the ongoing judicial process.

Speaking during the dialogue, Governor Lobong urged residents to reject violence, uphold the rule of law and support peaceful coexistence ahead of the country’s planned elections.

He commended the leaders of the Mogos and Jie communities for embracing reconciliation, describing the agreement as an important step toward improving security, fostering development and strengthening unity in Kapoeta East County and Eastern Equatoria State.

The peace initiative comes after months of tension between the two communities, which has disrupted movement, trade and livelihoods in parts of Kapoeta East. Local authorities expressed hope that the agreement will pave the way for lasting peace and renewed cooperation among residents.
