Media Authority warns against use of wrong national flag

The Media Authority has cautioned media houses, advertisement and printing companies against printing wrong versions of the national flag that does not conform with the right version.

The blue color in the triangular shape of the national flag where the yellow star in embedded has been the center of debate.

A deep-blue color has occasionally been wrongly printed instead of the correct light blue color.

But the media regulator said it has observed printing and circulation of different versions of the South Sudan national flag in the country and at some diplomatic missions abroad.

In a memo released on Friday, the Media Authority said the national flag can only be reproduced in a dignified manner in its original designs, accurate shapes and colors.

It added that any product bearing images of the South Sudan national flag should reflect the right version.

The media authority said failure to comply to print the right version of the country’s flag will incur penalties to printing and advertisement companies.

In the memo, the media regulatory body advised all levels of government and public institutions to remove all the wrong and substandard versions of the South Sudan national flag and replace them with the right official version.

According to the media authority, the ministry of presidential affairs will provide enough national flags for all the states and administrative areas.

This is in accordance with the 5th governors’ forum resolutions, held in Juba from 22nd to 29th November 2021.

The South Sudan national flag is a visible national symbol that represents the South Sudanese in deferent functions.

In the memo signed by Elijah Alier, the managing director of media authority, Sthe country’s flag should be accorded respect and dignity at all times.

The flag of South Sudan was adopted following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended the Second Sudanese Civil War.

A similar version of the flag was previously used as the flag of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.

The South Sudan flag has three horizontal stripes of black, red, and green that are separated by white fimbriations.

A light blue triangle that contains a yellow star with five points stretches out from the flag’s hoist.

Each color was carefully chosen to give the South Sudan flag meaning.
