Maridi youth released from detention in Juba

The Caretaker Governor of Western Equatoria State says 37 youth who were arrested in Maridi County and transferred to Juba for detention, have now been released.

Patrick Raphael Zamoi says the young men were arrested in June after clashes between local youth and cattle keepers in Maridi town.

Eight people were killed in the incident.

Mr Zamoi says the youth will soon return to the state without pending charges.

“Their case is finished and if anyone knows one of our sons here called Africano Manday, he should call him. The boys are now under his care,” he told a cheering crowd in Maridi.

“I assigned him that he should sign and that the boys are under his responsibility now.”
