Local authorities in Guit County of Unity State have arrested one person in connection with the deadly shooting, in which five youth were gunned down outside a courtroom last week.

The commissioner, George Kawai Chany said clashes erupted among armed youth, who were parties to a court case involving a girl on Sunday.

Chany stated that some youth identified as brothers of the girl who got pregnant instigated a quarrel that resulted in the fatal shooting.

“One group including seven people and the other group and another group of six people. All of them who fought they were thirteen in number. They are brothers of the girl,” said Commissioner Chany.

According to the official, the agitated armed youth opened fire on one another, minutes into the pronouncement of the final ruling, leaving five of them dead.

“There were casualties, five even died on spot, only one person was injured. The court was trying to finalize the issue and then they decided to fight in front of the court,” he said.

Commissioner Kawai Chany confirmed the arrest of one suspect in the fatal shooting and added that security agents are hunting more culprits on the run.

He appealed to armed youth to be peaceful and leave the matter to the authorities.

“I succeeded to arrest one, I remain with two people. Therefore, when I finish and find that all people are arrested, then the second step, we will go and see what to do even the next compensation will take place very soon.”
