Malaria cases go up

Author : | Published: Tuesday, November 8, 2016

There has been a rise in malaria cases in South Sudan this year, the World Health Organization has said.

The WHO says nearly 1.9 million malaria cases have been across the country as by the end of October.

It says this represents arise from 1.82 million cases reported last year in the same period.

The report shared by the UNOCHA says all counties across the country recorded an increase in Malaria cases: Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Upper Nile regions recorded twice the number of cases reported last year.

The health agency says the number of malaria cases is expected to decline in weeks to come with the onset of the dry season.

In conflict-affected counties, cases have remained within expected levels and have either normalized or are gradually returning to normal.

The Agency says this is because health organizations intervened by improving access to treatment through mobile clinics, distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and indoor residual spraying.

Radio programs promoting the use of mosquito nets to reduce malaria transmission were aired.
