The Commissioner of Magwi County, Lam Francis Gabriel, says a prolonged dry spell has affected crops in many parts of the country, with farmers expecting a poor harvest this season.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Thursday, Commissioner Gabriel said most parts of Magwi County have experienced high temperatures and little rainfall over the past few months.

He said the dry spell has affected crops and is likely to reduce the harvest this year.

“The only situation we are facing is weather changes, which have caused a lot of heat and affected crops in most areas. Some parts have received little rain. The poor road conditions have also made it difficult to transport produce to the main market,” he said.

Commissioner Gabriel appealed to residents not to give up farming, saying the weather could change and bring more rain.

He encouraged farmers to continue cultivating and focus on crops that can support them during the difficult period.

“So, my message to all citizens is that this has become a natural disaster in many areas. But we should not give up because the weather may change and we may receive rain soon. I encourage everyone to continue cultivating and focus on crops that can help us during this period,” he appealed.

The Commissioner also appealed to the state government to repair feeder roads to help farmers transport their produce to markets.
