Farmers in Kapoeta South County, Eastern Equatoria, will not harvest crops this season due to failure of rain, an official has said.
The commissioner said the County will likely face early famine.
Commissioner Martin Lorika Lotiam told Eye Radio that crops in the area have failed to grow because of the delay in the rainfalls.
“It just rained in July and it was erratic rainfalls,” said Mr Lotiam.
Rainy season normally starts in April or May in the area.
“Up to now, the maize crops are still small. So there is hunger in the county, because we were supposed to harvest in the month of August.”
Commissioner Lorika also said there is shortage of fuel in the County.
He said the rains in part of Eastern Equatoria state have affected the conditions of the roads along Torit-Kapoeta highway.
