Lakes: SPLA soldiers receive salaries

Author : | Published: Tuesday, October 20, 2015

The SPLA says its general headquarters has released money to Lakes State-based soldiers, whose salaries disappeared last month in the hands of finance officers.

Last week, SPLA spokesman Col Philip Aguer said more than half a million pounds meant for salaries of its soldiers was missing.

The 670,000 pounds disappeared in the care of two officers: a major and a lieutenant colonel.

The money was meant for one month salary of brigade seven soldiers in Lakes State, who are under division six.

The Commander of Division six in Western Equatoria State, Johnson Juma Okot, says the Ministry of Defense has already paid the soldiers, estimated to be between 500 and 700.

In a statement at the military headquarters in Juba, General Juma denied that he was involved in the loss of the money.

“Some of those allegations that the division commander together with the chief administration of finance and the chief administration of logistics participated in the distribution process, is a lie,” Gen Juma said.
