Lakes police hunt suspected rapist, arrest 2 associates

The police in Lakes State are searching for a man accused of partaking in the gang-raping of a 14-year-old girl, after arresting his two associates in Yirol West County.

The state deputy police commissioner, General Machiek Achol said the suspects in custody – Marial Majur Mading, 23, and Ichut Makur Mabor, 25, were arrested on Tuesday.

The identity of the third suspect who is on the run – has been withheld by the police for security reasons.

“The accused were three, and we were able to arrest two of them. The victim was going to school when three young men intercepted her and raped her. The incident occurred on the thirty-first day of March,” Machiek told Eye Radio.

He said “search is underway for the fugitive suspect to face the law.”

“The third has not been identified, but his identity will be revealed through investigations the incident occurred in Ngop Payam of Yirol West County.”

The police official said the teenage survivor was sexually abused on her way to school by the three young men, in Ngop Payam of Yirol West County last week.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Saturday, General Machiek said the survivor has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
