Update: Kiir visits Wau, opens its headquarters

President Salva Kiir officially opened the headquarters of Wau County at Ngo Baggari this afternoon.

The President arrived in Wau this morning on a two day visit to Western Bahr El-Ghazal.

This is the first time the president has travelled outside Juba into Greater Bahr El-Ghazal region since December.

Tomorrow, he will open the headquarters of Jur River at Nyana Kok on the east bank of Jur River.

This internal visit to Rumbek and Wau comes during a period of political tensions in the country. President Salva Kiir is expected to be in Wau until Wednesday.

During this time he will open a hospital ward and gynecology department, and a new museum at the Wau Massacre site, where 75 people were killed by the Sudan Armed Forces on 11th July 1965.

The State Minister of Information and Culture, Derik Uya Alfred said the present will also discuss security matters in the three states of Western Bahr El-Ghazal, Northern Bahr El-Ghazal and Warrap during his visit.

“The president goes directly to the General Secretariat for meeting and he will be discussing security issues and general conditions in the three State,” said, Derik Uya Alfred, state Minister of Information and Culture.

He was received by the governors of Western Bahr el Ghazal and northern Bahr el Ghazal, state ministers and many other dignitaries.
