Kiir reshuffles positions in Jonglei state government

President Salva Kiir has reshuffled key positions in the government of Jonglei State, relieving and appointing ministers, commission officials, and a county commissioner in decrees read on state television on Wednesday evening.

The changes, announced on the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), affected portfolios including peacebuilding, gender, and rural development.

Those relieved of their duties include Simon Hoth Duol, Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement; Malual Gabriel Kon, Minister of Peace Building; Thon Lual Aor, Minister of Cooperative and Rural Development; and William Kuol Chuol, Minister of Gender and Social Welfare.

Also removed were Jacob Lony Mai, Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission, and Deng Aruei, Deputy Chairperson of the HIV/AIDS Commission. At the county level, Juach Arok Juach was relieved as Commissioner of Twic East County.

In the new appointments, the President named Maker Dak Deng as Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement; Alier John Panchol as Minister of Peace Building; Manyall Riek Rial as Minister of Roads and Bridges; Abraham Thon Kuany as Minister of Cooperative and Rural Development; and Elijah Mayian Lul as Minister of Gender and Social Welfare.

Duoth Nhial Chan was appointed Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission, while Jok Jacob Tit was named Deputy Chairperson of the HIV/AIDS Commission. Magok Mabiei Magok was appointed Commissioner of Twic East County.
