Kiir invited to coronation of King Charles III

The outgoing UK Ambassador to South Sudan Jonny Baxter has invited President Salva Kiir to the coronation of King Charles III in Westminster Abbey, London in May this year.

Charles, 74, automatically became the King at the moment his mother, Queen Elizabeth died in September 8 2022.

However, there are a number of practical and traditional steps which the former Prince of Wales must go through to be crowned King.

According to a press statement from Kiir’s office, Ambassador Baxter visited the president to bid farewell “and also extended a letter of invitation to attend the coronation of King Charles III in May this year.”

Speaking to the media, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Malek reportedly thanked the UK government for supporting health and education in the country.

Deng also “recognized the crucial role played by Troika Countries in Public Finance management reforms in finance Sector.”

Meanwhile, Ambassador Baxter said his government will continue supporting South Sudan in in Public Finance Management reforms and other different fields.

Since 2012, after South Sudan gained its independence, the UK has administered the Health Pooled Fund (HPF) to support small and large state health facilities in the country.

However, the health network providing 80% of health service to hundreds of thousands of citizens across the country, has of recent, struggled with insufficient funding.
