Kiir in Kuajok to mark Catholic Church’s 100th anniversary

President Salva Kiir left Juba for Warrap State capital Kuajok on Saturday to attend the Catholic Church’s centenary celebration.

He will join religious leaders and believers on Sunday to commemorate 100 years of the establishment of the Catholic Church in the capital of Warrap State.

His press secretary Lily Martin Manyiel said the president was seen off by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and other senior government officials.

He held a brief public engagement in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State before proceeding to Kuacjok where he will stay for the celebration on Sunday.

After the celebration, President Kiir will also visit his rural home in Akon before proceeding to Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on Monday.

The statement further says several ministers had gone to Warrap on Friday ahead of the president’s visit.

They are wildlife minister Rizik Zacharia Hassan, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Albino Akol Atak, and Trade Minister Madut Biar Yel.

Others are Minister of Culture and Heritage Nadia Arop Dudi and the Minister of Roads and Bridges Simon Mijok Mijak.

Early this week, Warrap State Information Minister told Eye Radio that preparations were underway to receive Kiir in Kuajok.

Different churches in various states of Western and Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria, and Upper Nile have in recent times celebrated 100 years of catholic and Episcopal churches.
