President Salva Kiir has issued a decree declaring a ceasefire for the SPLA on all fronts.

The decree read on the national TV last evening comes two days after the president signed the agreement on the resolution of the conflict.

The press secretary in the office of the president, Ateny Wek Ateny, described the ceasefire as comprehensive.
He told Eye Radio that the order was “effective since 12 am last night.”

Mr Ateny says the SPLA will not engage in combat “unless in self-defense in case if someone attacks.”

“The SPLA will not carry out any offensives as per the instructions from the Commander in Chief,” he said.

A civil society group, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization has called on the SPLM in Opposition forces to also declare cease fire.

The Executive director of CEPO Edmond Yakani said the peace agreement will be better implemented if both sides have declared ceasefire.
