Kiir attends Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development

President Salva Kiir has traveled to Japan, leading a high level ministerial delegation to participate in the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development scheduled for June 1st, in Yokohama.

The Tokyo International Conference on African Development is a summit on African Development, which was initiated by the Japanese government in 1993, to revive the interest of the International community in developing the continent.

The conference is held every five years, and is co-organized by Japan, the African Union Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program.

The meeting will focus on transformation of quality growth in the field of infrastructure, human development, empowerment of women and youth and promotion of human security.

The leaders will also discuss the post Millennium Development Goals, and support for African Initiative for Peace.

He is also expected to meet the Emperor of Japan, His Majesty Akihito and Prime Minster, Shinzo Abe.

President Kiir will also meet the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- Moon and other dignitaries.
