Kampala University welcomes court verdict

Kampala University main campus has welcomed the court verdict dismissing the allegations of fraud against the administration and maintains that any activities at the suspended college in Juba are illegal.

Last week, a Uganda High Court terminated the case of involving South Sudanese students who took the university to court over graduation issues.

The distraught 300 students sued the university for failing to graduate in August 2022, despite having completed studies at the embattled Juba branch.

But Kampala High Court on October 19, ruled that the applicants have not presented satisfactory evidence to the court.

The court verdict issued by the presiding judge, Justice Boniface Wamala and extended to Eye Radio said there was no convincing evidence that any grounds for judicial review existed in the case.

The court ruled that the students’ application completely failed, and they bear a cost to the accused, Professor Badru Dungu Kateregga, who is the University Vice Chancellor.

Reacting to the ruling on Friday, the Kampala university main campus welcomed the verdict and said the Juba-based branch is still under suspension and any operation at the college is illegal.

“Until the suspension is lifted, by the relevant authorities at the Kampala University main Campus, all operations at the college including admissions, collection of Tuition and studies are irregular and illegal,” said the notice posted on the official page of the university.

In an email to students upon the ruling, the students lawyer Steven Nelson said they lost on facts, but he strongly believed the matter was misconceived and manipulated.

The Principal of Kampala University College in Juba also urged the students to be patient, saying he is in talks with collaborative universities in the region to graduate the over 300 students rejected by the institution’s main branch in Kampala.

Principal Faisal Juuko said he is seeking academic cooperation with several universities with similar curricula, including the Uganda-based Nkumba University, Victoria University Kampala and Hope University in Somalia – to graduate the stranded students.
