Teaching staff at the University of Juba are demanding to find out the fate of their allowances and back salary, due to them for over a year.

Secretary General of the academic staff association, Professor Leonzio Onek, said a meeting between the staff and the new minister of Education last week failed to reach a deal on their pay.

The teaching staff passed a letter to the Ministry of Education Science and Technology whereby they called for reinstatement of their allowances which were cut at the beginning of the austerity period.

Professor Onek told Eye Radio that the Lecturers presented three options to the new minister;

The options include; pay their arrears and reinstate allowances in October or pay arrears later but reinstate allowances immediately or finally, reinstate allowances later but pay arrears now.

The lecturers claimed they have not been paid full allowances for about 14 months.
