Juba County Commissioner said he demolished the houses of land grabbers in the Molubur area of Lado Payam in collaboration with the organized forces, adding that the land is being allocated to their rightful owners.

Joseph Charles Wani said over 5,000 people have official documents for the area and will be shown their respective places soon.

The county official called on the public, especially authorities from the national, state, and county levels to collaborate with the leadership and enable the process to take place.

“I am calling upon all the stakeholders all the authorities from the national, state, and the county to collaborate with the county authority and give this land officially, officially to the owners who legally process their document,” Wani said, speaking in Molubur village.

“We cannot allow anybody to continue manipulating the systems of the Republic of South Sudan for their interests.”

“We started with the demolition of this area this criminal person came with a high level of Authority and began to fence and beat the community, torturing the community and burning the villages.”

“We wanted to end this impunity to the people of South Sudan. We cannot accept it. The land is very big. The land is very important because almost about 5,000 citizens applied officially and officially got their documents.”

On his part, the Minister of Housing, Land, and Public Utilities in Central Equatoria State Fred Laku cautioned the citizens against dealing with the land grabbers.

“We want to thank the leadership of the chief of staff for helping through the soldiers to help us in showing the land to the rightful owners on as those who people who have possess the document for this plan.”

“To the citizens of South Sudan, please let us not be deceived by some wrong grabbers claiming that it is their place and giving it to mislead the people. That is why now other people felt victim as a result of this kind of malpractice.”

In February, the commissioner of Juba County Charles Wani called on the Chief of the Défense of South Sudan Peoples Défense Force to discipline individual generals who were involved in land grabbing in the area.

Early in 2023, the Central Equatoria State governor said land grabbing was one of the major security concerns facing Juba, and the surrounding areas.

In 2021, President Salva Kiir constituted a 12-member committee tasked to investigate the Garbo village incident and address the issue of rampant land grabbing around Juba City.

But there has been no end to land-grabbing activities in the county.
