UNICEF has urged Juba City Council to regulate water tankers from fetching water in and around Juba.
This is in an effort to reduce cholera cases in Juba.
The WASH Cluster Coordinator in South Sudan, Jersey Plega, told journalists on Monday that some water tankers owners are collecting untreated water.
There is an official USAID-funded water plant in Juba town
“We need to keep regulating and enforcing that no water tankers are collecting water directly from the Nile,” said Mr Plega.
“The second area is controlling the sewage trucks; we were getting reports that sewage trucks are still dumping sewage directly into the river Nile, which need to be completely outlined and regulated”
WASH Coordination Cluster is working with UNICEF in the field of water sanitation and hygiene.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor of Juba, Festo Abdul-Aziz said his office is working with other government institutions to reduce cholera cases in Juba.
