Jonglei governor outlines priorities

The newly appointed governor of Jonglei State, Philip Aguer Panyang, says he will prioritize security, peace, and education in the state.

Mister Aguer was appointed last week by President Salva Kiir to govern the state.

In an interview with Eye Radio, the former SPLA spokesperson said he will use expertise from the diaspora.

“Building of a nation requires all of us – the effort of everybody. We will be involving the diaspora because they have the skills and they can mobilize the resources,” said Mr Aguer.

On Thursday, Vice President James Wani Igga urged the newly appointed governors not to let down the people of South Sudan.

Mr Aguer stated that he will restore traditional authority in an effort to resolve communal conflicts.

“So that people can address issues of criminality immediately without bringing them to the town,” he added.

It’s not clear when the 28 governors will start work in their respective states.
