Jonglei governor names separate Duk, Twic East teams for peace mission

• • 2 min read

The Jonglei State caretaker government has named two separate teams of community leaders from Duk and Twic East counties to help ease tensions following deadly clashes.

The 24 community leaders are listed in separate letters signed by Caretaker Governor Major General Moses Majok Gatluak and dated October 4.

The statement said the community leaders are being sent “purposely to help ease the tension between communities in conflict.”

It asked authorities and other concerned parties to “accord them with any help they may need.”  It is not yet confirmed whether the delegations have left or arrived at their destinations.

The move follows violence reported in Duk County on September 24. Duk County Relief and Rehabilitation Coordinator Ajiing Apam told Eye Radio that about 250 households were displaced.

He reported 13 deaths on one side and around 15 on the other, while 25 people were wounded on one side and 21 on the other.
