The government of Jonglei State has negotiated the release of six children abducted from the Pibor Administrative Area by Jonglei armed youth in the area last month.
The unnamed children are four girls and two boys, aged between 2 to 13 years.
Jonglei State Police Commissioner said the children were recovered on Wednesday and Thursday.
He said they called the leaders of the militia group and negotiated the release of the minors outside Bor town.
“Some of them (raiders) started to return back to Bor. We went to the site outside the town to monitor and see what they were coming with so during our monitoring, we found out that among them were children,” said General.
“We called their leaders and we started negotiations with them to hand over to us those children. So, yesterday we received two, and today we received four a total of six.”
Major General Elia Costa also said they were monitoring the situation to see what the armed youth looted from the neighboring Pibor Administrative Area.
For two weeks, the restive Greater Jonglei region has witnessed inter-communal violence, characterized by killings, displacement, and cattle rustling.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, an estimated 30,000 people have been displaced, following violent clashes in Gumuruk County of Pibor.
