Jebel Boma Commissioner in Pibor Administrative Area and 14 other people were killed in a road ambush perpetrated by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday, Pibor Authorities said.

The late commissioner, Jeremiah Korok was returning from one of the payams in a convoy including a government delegation – when he descended into an ambush staged by armed men.

Deputy Chief of Greater Pibor John Abula said the victims include the Deputy Commander of Jebel Boma, Colonel Kaka Tumoruk.

Abula added that four other people sustained injuries while one of the attackers was killed on spot.

In an interview with Eye Radio, Abula said relative calm has returned to the area and an investigation is ongoing.

“The commissioner was returning from one of the payams coming back to the headquarters, when he fell into an ambush, and his life was taken by those attackers along with him 14 people including the deputy area commander,” Abula said.

He said most of the victims are local government officials including Payam and county administrators.

Deputy Chief Abula could not name the attackers, although he said they are the same bandits who killed the commissioner of Pochalla County in June 2023.

“The forces are still there because we have a breakdown of communication. the network in Jebel Boma is broken.”

“It is the very group that killed Pochalla Commissioner last year. This is the same group because the body that was found down there is the body of the same people because one of the attackers was also killed in action.”

“The situation is calm, and the attackers went back to where they came from, we have already set up a committee to investigate the matter.”
