Ireland has announced an additional funding of more than $2 million for humanitarian assistance in South Sudan.
More than $1 million will be used by the International Committee of the Red Cross for its humanitarian operations. The UNHCR will also use another more than $1 million for regional refugee response.
The Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, and the Minister of State for Development, Trade Promotion and North-South Cooperation, Sean Sherlock, announced the funding on Wednesday.
In a statement, Mr. Charlie said South Sudan is in crisis and on the brink of famine.
He said the announcement brings the total funding of Ireland to South Sudan to more than $19 million since the outbreak of the conflict in 2013.
The two ministers also announced funds for Nigeria and Burundi.
